Lets start with the gems, THE BURIED TREASURE! The Week 2 stat line is in parenthesis. Buried Treasure
Jeff Garcia, TB QB - (243 pass yds, 2 TD, 0 INT) Garcia proved once again that he still has some juice in the tank. Lets not forget that Garcia tallied 10 TDs and only 2 INTs when he took over for the injured Donovan McNabb for the final 8 games of the Eagles' 2006 campaign. He should be a nice insurance policy as a No. 2 fantasy QB this season. Matt Schaub, Hou QB - (227 pass yds, 2 TD, 0 INT) The Texans have a fantasy-relevant quarterback? You betcha! Schaub has thrown the rock well for the second straight week and he's looking like an excellent sleeper pick for 2007. The offensive line is much improved and he has a bonafide stud receiving target in Andre Johnson. Roydell Williams, Ten WR - (4 rec, 72 rec yds, 1 TD) Somebody has to catch the balls thrown by Vince Young this year. His week 2 target turned out to be Williams and in my mind he's worth picking up if you have the roster space. Wes Welker, NE WR - (8 rec, 91 rec yds, 13 ret yds) Welker has found a home as the slot receiver and punt returner. With all the weapons in the Patriots arsenal, Welker could be primed for a year like Brandon Stokley had a couple years ago with the Colts. He also has the added perk of returning punts for those of you in leagues that include return points for offensive players. No Brainers: Jamal Lewis, Cle RB; Brandon Marshall, Den WR; Dallas Clark, Ind TE; Isaac Bruce, StL WR; Jerry Porter, Oak WR
Now let's take a look at THE FOOL'S GOLD Fool's Gold
Derek Anderson, Cle QB - (328 pass yds, 5 TD, 1 INT)Don't get me wrong. I'm a diehard Browns fan, but here's another guy that you just have to stay away from. The next two weeks he'll be going up against Baltimore and New England. Then, there'll be only one week until the Browns bye week and the consensus around town is that Brady Quinn will take over the reigns after the bye week. Marty Booker, Mia WR - (4 rec, 79 rec yds, 1 TD) Booker is several years removed from being a top flight wide receiver. It was nice to see him catch lightning in a bottle, but don't expect the production to continue. Chris Chambers is the primary receiving target for Trent Green and Booker is probably only going to average 3 receptions and 40 receiving yards per game this season. Dennis Northcut, Jac WR - (5 rec, 75 rec yds, 10 ret yds) Northcutt has been the leading Jags receiver for the second straight week...whoa, whoa, whoa. Lets not get carried away here. The Jacksonville passing attack is extremely weak and don't forget that Northcutt is a Cleveland Browns cast away who suffered from a severe case of the "drops" in 2006. Don't waste your time with Northcutt. Donald Lee, GB TE - (4 rec, 35 rec yds, 1 TD) In your desperate search for a viable tight end, don't be blinded by Lee's TD in Week 2. Lee is listed as the #1 TE on the Packers depth chart, but he's more like 1A with Bubba Franks being 1B. My point is that Lee will be sharing the load with Franks, making both of them irrelevant for fantasy teams. Instead, take a flier on Owen Daniels from the Houston Texans. |

Need help sifting through the big performances from guys on your league's waiver wire to figure out who you want to pick up? Who's going to be the diamond in the rough and who's going to be a one week wonder? The Robin Sports Waiver Wire Gems will give you our take on the week's most noticeable stat lines. The goal of this column is to help you decide between the guys most likely to be available on your free agent wire. Here's how we'll break them down:
DeShawn Wynn, GB RB - (50 rush yds, 2 TD, 2 rec, 18 rec yds) Brandon Jackson may be the starter, but it looks like Wynn is the goal line back. The running back situation is very much unsettled in Green Bay, but that may be even more reason to pick up Wynn. Everybody knows that fantasy football is won with solid running backs and this looks like a guy that's at least worth a look. At the best, he could turn into a poor man's Marion Barber or, worst case scenario, this week was an aberration and you can take a flier on someone else next week.
Joe Jurevicius, Cle WR - (4 rec, 44 rec yds, 2 TD) Don't let the two touchdowns fool you. There's very little chance that the Browns offense will even come close to matching their Week 2 offensive output again. Jurevicius is only the 3rd receiving option on the Browns and the QB situation is shaky at best. Joe's nothing more than a No. 4 or No. 5 fantasy WR.
