Welcome to the new Studs & Duds section from RobinSports.com. Each week, we will examine the prime time players alongside the toilet bowl floaters for your enjoyment from the past week's action. We will be giving out weekly awards to the best and worst performances all season. The awards are as follows: Lets start with the studs: ie. THE GOLDEN EGGS Golden Egg Award - Randy Moss
Honorable Mention:Adrian Peterson - My goodness. Chester Taylor got an injury and then likely watched his starting gig go bye-bye as Adrian Peterson is here! The Rook nearly snags the Nugget this week as he comes off the bench to rumble for 103 yards on 19 carries and grabs his first regular season NFL TD on a 60 yard catch. Let's hope he can stay healthy because this kid is going to be great. Travis Henry - After a 1200 yard season with the Titans, Henry joined the run-friendly Broncos backfield and his stock soared this off-season. A late 1st or early 2nd round pick in most drafts, Henry responded nicely with a 139 yard performance tacking on 44 through the air. Henry may just have a career year in Denver. Tony Romo, Jason Witten, Terrell Owens, Eli Manning, Plaxico Burress - 650 yards passing and 8 TDs will bring smiles to fantasy owners' mugs as Manning and Romo led a Sunday night shootout in Big D. What a fun game to watch. Personally, I have put a lot of stock in the younger Manning and am ecstatic with his performance. Chris Brown - Wasn't it Chris Brown who wasn't even on an NFL roster not too long ago? Wasn't it Chris Brown who rushed 19 times for 175 yards against the Jags! A near miss on the Golden Nugget, Brown looked phenomenal. Don't go stir crazy and give up value to get the guy in a trade, but if he is on your free agent wire, well, you might want to add him..... Derrick Ward - Ward earns an honorable mention as he comes off the bench from nowhere replacing the injured Brandon Jacobs to post 89 yards rushing on 13 carries and caught 4 balls for 27 yards, including a 10 yard TD. Now that is production from a guy most fantasy players have never heard of. Now let's take a look at which players likely cost their teams games during the opening week of the NFL Fantasy Season and earned their respective spot on: THE SEA PICKLES Sea Pickle Award - Steven Jackson
Honorable Mention:Reggie Brown - 1 catch for 14 yards? For a receiver who was supposed to be the Eagles #1 and a huge sleeper pick by many, Brown laid a big one on the field on Sunday as he was non-existent. Watching the game, I could never really tell if he was even playing as Avant and Curtis were the only guys to catch a ball. I know it's tough drawing the top corner as a #1, but come on Reggie... Reggie Bush - There have been numerous reports about how Bush pre-madonna'd all off season long. Read CBS Sportsline's article if you want to know about it. I say the man just had a bad game, but it still stunk. While the Colts were slapping the Saints around the field, Bush sat on the bench wondering why he didn't have over 200 total yards and 2 TDs. Well Reggie, we were wondering too... Lee Evans - Nice work Lee. 1 grab. 5 yards. That is just spectacular for a guy who was ranked in the top 10 receivers on many fantasy boards. I am just filled with excitement after your performance yesterday....You truly were a Stanley Steamer. Maurice Jones-Drew - Jones-Drew goes up here because we wanted to say: "We told you so." So many fantasy guides, sites, and pundits had Jones-Drew as a 2nd round pick. Ok? The guy is a backup... We know he had a good rookie season, but so did Cadillac Williams...and as the starter I might add. Jones-Drew will be fine. This was just a "pat ourselves on the back" section. Cedric Benson - Well Bear fans. Do you miss Thomas Jones yet? The Bears decided to let their most dynamic player leave in the off-season and replace him with an inexperienced back in Benson. Their reward? 19 carries, 42 yards. Kudos to you Bears! |

How about that Randy Moss guy! After a hiatus in Oakland which saw countless fantasy owners spit nails and throw cuss words at the once great receiver, he explodes onto the fantasy scene to the tune of 183 yards receiving with a TD! The biggest thing to notice was the TD reception where the Jets had triple coverage, yet Randy schooled them all. By joining Brady, Moss might just be the steal of the season. We know it's early, but you have to be happy if you took that fourth round gamble on him.
What a mess. Many teams used the 2nd overall draft pick on Jackson and some had thoughts that this young one would challenge LT for the crown. What makes things worse is the matter of the Rams offensive line not protecting anyone. A bad game can be absorbed, so let's just hope the Rams straighten out the mess. Check out this stat line: 18 carries for 58 yards, 1 rec. for 3 yards, 0 TD's, and 2 lost fumbles. Assuming my math is ok, I believe that is a whopping 1 point in most standard leagues. Ouch! Congrats Steven, you are the winner of the inaugural RobinSports Sea Pickle as you stunk!
