1 Tomlinson, LaDainian RB SD 349 1815 5.2 28 56 508 9.1 3 1 451
While the Coaching change may cause some concerns, you cannot pass on this stud. Even if last season was a career year, his average years are better than most 'career' seasons. Norv Turner is very familiar with LT and will use the horse to win games for the Chargers this season. Look for 2000 total yards and 20 TD's out of the #1 pick this season. Please don't guess at who will be better next season. You know exactly what your getting with the #1 overall pick.
2 Jackson, Steven RB STL 346 1528 4.4 13 90 806 9 3 2 338
An absolute stud last season. This young gun is ready to break out and lead the league in rushing yards for a season. Don't be intimidated with this pick. Jackson is picked by many to surpass Tomlinson this season, but let's not get carried away. If you have the 2nd pick, feel safe. If you have the third and he slides to you, feel blessed. He just may lead you to a title.
3 Parker, Willie RB PIT 337 1494 4.4 13 31 222 7.2 3 5 274
Parker rumbled out 518 yards over the final month of the NFL regular season last year and has asserted himself as one of the NFL's elite ball toters. Initially, many thought Parker was nothing more than a flash in the pants. Well, he proved all of us wrong. The exit of Steeler great, Bill Cowher, might add a little concern, but fear not. Parker will get his and you will get your value out of this stud.
4 Johnson, Larry RB KC 429 1821 4.2 17 46 439 9.5 2 2 354
LJ has been a workhorse over the past two seasons under Head Coach Herm Edwards. The work is the cause for concern here and the reason that Johnson is not our second overall running back. The last player to break the NFL's season carries mark was Jamaal Anderson for the Atlanta Falcons. He played in all of two games the next season and all but ended his career. The dismantling of the Chiefs mammoth line is yet another concern for Johnson as he will not have the up front luxury he has had over the past two seasons. LJ will still be good, but he is on the tail end of the 1st tier running backs for now.
5 Westbrook, Brian RB PHI 260 1358 5.2 8 79 711 9 4 2 285
Despite the continuing questions regarding Westbrooks size, the Villanova product has quietly become one of the premier backs in the NFL. When McNabb went down with injury last season, the Eagles learned that they had more than a swing back as Westbrook totalled up over 1350 yards rushing. Complemented with great hands out of the backfield, he will be a terrific asset to any fantasy club this season. The return of McNabb will only improve the running room for Westbrook this season and we are predicting a career year for this horse.
6 Alexander, Shaun RB SEA 276 965 3.5 7 12 48 4 0 3 140
Alexander was the model of consistency and durability from 2001-2006. Until last season, he had amassed almost 100 TD's and 1500 yards per year in 5 seasons. The broken foot was a hamper all year and even upon his return, Alexander never displayed the burst that we have all come to admire. The offensive line is still struggling from the departure of Pro Bowl guard Steve Hutchinson, but they are much healthier this year. While Alexander's rushing and scoring titles are a thing of the past, he will still be a rock to lean on in your lineup for the next couple of seasons.
7 Gore, Frank RB SF 313 1695 5.4 8 61 485 8 1 6 278
Gore burst onto the scene last year for the paltry 49er offense and will look to carry the momentum into 2007. The offense has retooled with the additions of Darryl Jackson and Ashley Lelie, the return of young Vernon Davis from injury, and with Alex Smith entering his third season as a signal caller, the future looks bright. While many will reach for Gore this year in fantasy drafts because of his productivity last season, his value is right where it belongs. Don't reach, but don't be afraid of him either.
8 Johnson, Rudi RB CIN 341 1308 3.8 12 23 124 5.4 0 2 207
Mr. Consistency Jr. Johnson is the type of back that is going to give you 12-1400 yards every season. Despite not playing on many passing downs, Rudi continues to be a successful fantasy back that you can count on each and every week. We rank Rudi in the top tier for running backs this season albeit on the tail end. If you are looking for a solid back and can get him on the tail end of the first round of your fantasy draft, let out a belch and call us with your glee.
9 Addai, Joseph RB IND 251 1203 4.8 8 47 351 7.5 1 2 200
Beginning the 2nd tier backs is Joseph Addai. Despite splitting time with Rhodes last season, Addai managed to amass 1200 yards and 8 TD's out of the backfield. Not to shabby for a rookie campaign. The fact that opposing defenses must contain and gameplan for the man in front of him, only adds to Addai's ability to find the gaps, which are often enormous. Obviously, the sophomore slump is a concern and it will be tough for Addai to match his rookie numbers, but 1000 yards and 10 TD's is not unreasonable.
10 McGahee, Willis RB BAL 259 990 3.8 6 18 156 8.7 0 2 146
Following a season of mediocrity after failing to even reach the 1000 yard plateau, Willis McGahee finds himself with new life as he suits up for the Baltimore Ravens this season. McGahee couldn't have asked for a better situation as he joins a club committed to tough defense and grinding out games by running the ball. Look for McGahee to easily surpass the 1000 yard mark this season and make a return to the upper echelon of NFL running backs.
